Ringtones are a lucrative business and the evil-ol’ record industry knows that. They (record labels) want to extend their partnership with Apple to additionally charge users for downloadable song snippets and ringback tones. And while somehow I can see their point (or can I?), I don’t understand why would they think ringtones should cost more when purchased over a hypothetical 3G iTunes Store than the current Wi-Fi option. Record industry keeps losing profits and obviously change is just too hard for some people. CDs are dead people, long live the new age of downloadable music (and other digital content for that matter).
Anyway, I don’t want to rant about RIAA, you can surely read bad things about these folks on many places around the Web. Let me just say that according to The New York Times we’ll see Apple updating its ringtones offering by mid-June. That’s WWDC time folks. We don’t care about ringtones that much - give us the 3G iPhone.
